Parent accompanies child in water; emphasis is placed on teaching both child and parent basic aquatic and safety skills.

Prerequisites: Although there are no skill prerequisites for this course, children must be at least 6 months old to participate in the course and a parent must accompany each child in the water and participate in the classes.

Skill

  • Babies will get comfortable in the water with their parent
  • Practice blowing bubbles
  • Floating on front and back

For beginner swimmers, focuses on water safety and basic swimming skills. It comprises two levels:

Preschool 1

Gives new swimmers the opportunity to become acclimated and comfortable in the water without a parent.  Introduces basic self-rescue skills, blowing bubbles, floating, glides, and safe water exploration.

Prerequisite: Child must be potty trained and willing to work in water without parent.

Preschool 2

Description: Using skills learned in Preschool 1, children progress towards being more independent in the water.  Introduces more breath control skills, floats, and forward locomotion. 

Prerequisite: Child must be potty trained and able to enter/exit the water independently and voluntarily.

Skill

  • Preschool 1; breath control, kicking, floating and simple stroke techniques are emphasized.
  • Preschool 2; include orientation to deep water, arm strokes with kicking on front and back, rotary breathing, turning over and basic safety skills.

From the most basic to the perfection of the technique, the 3 levels that make up the Learn-to-swim program will allow the child / adolescent to increase their skills, their technique, their comfort, confidence and independence to move in the water.

Each levels relies on the previous one to develop a solid foundation needed to learn Freestyle.

Prerequisites: Child must be willing to work in water without a parent.

Lessons are geared toward the adult who is just learning to swim, wanting to improve technique, and/or increase stamina for exercise.
